Caris LeVert: A Star in the Making
The Brooklyn Nets made some impressive strides this season. While D’Angelo Russell was the story of the team, there were also some key young players who helped bolster the team to the postseason. One of those players is Caris LeVert.
LeVert very well could have been in the running for Most Improved Player if he did not get hurt at the start of the season. With this in mind, is LeVert a star in the making for the Brooklyn Nets? Here is what he has shown us so far in his career.
Caris LeVert is a Star in the Making
LeVert has been in the league for three years. During that time, he has career averages of 11.1 points per game coupled with a three-point shooting percentage of 32.9 percent. He has also shown flashes on the defensive end of the floor. LeVert possesses a career steal average of 1.1 per game and held his own against his match-ups.
Even though LeVert only played 40 games this past season, he did not allow any players he guarded to score 10 points or more. His injury was hard to swallow, as he was showing flashes of greatness before it occurred. He has been growing over the past couple of years, but this past season was looking like his break-out year. It is sad that we did not see what else he could have done had he not gotten hurt.
Caris LeVert in 2018-19
While Caris LeVert’s career numbers do not scream “star”, it is key to remember he got hurt in the middle of what was looking like the best year of his career. He had clutch moments, which included a game-winning shot in Denver over Gary Harris, the Nuggets’ best perimeter defender. Not to mention, he had his best scoring season averaging 13.7 points per game. He also had a player impact estimate (PIE) of 10.3, which is comparable to some of his other teammates.
Spencer Dinwiddie had a PIE of 11 and D’Angelo Russell had one of 14.1. For reference, the player impact estimate measures a player’s overall statistical contribution against the total statistics in games they have played. While the numbers are not as glamorous as of yet, LeVert very well could be an All-Star in the making with the potential he showed this past season.
The stats do not always tell the whole story, so one must watch some game tape of LeVert and what he brings to the table. All in all, we could be seeing a new All-Star in the making in the Eastern Conference.
