The NBA All-Star Game is rapidly approaching. With that being said, one question always looms around this time of the NBA season. Which All-Star will win the All-Star Game MVP? Without further adieu, let’s rank each All-Star’s chances of winning the NBA All-Star Game MVP. (We will be grading on a scale from one to 10.)
NBA All-Star #1: Giannis Antetokounmpo
For the second year in a row, the Greek Freak is an All-Star captain. With that being said, his chances of winning the MVP are very high. Some say the team he drafted doesn’t match up well with LeBron James‘s team. However, any team with Giannis is going to have a chance to win. Giannis is certainly going to up an insane stat-line with him being one of the All-Star captains and the reigning league MVP. His chances are a solid 9.5-10 for winning the All-Star MVP.
NBA All-Star #2: LeBron James
LeBron definitely has his fair share of All-Star experience. James has won the All-Star Game MVP a total of three times throughout his legendary career. Just like last year, he is an All-Star captain yet again. LeBron has the talent to put on a show no matter where he is, including the All-Star Game. Just like Giannis’ chances, he has a solid 9.5-10 chance at the MVP award.
NBA All-Star #3: Luka Doncic
Doncic has taken the league by storm in just his second year. Doncic has quickly become one of the most fun players to watch. The kid has quickly racked up a number of triple-doubles this season and has helped put the Mavericks squarely in the middle of the competitive Western Conference playoff picture. With all of this in mind, Doncic’s chances of winning the All-Star Game MVP are a solid nine out of 10.
NBA All-Star #4: Anthony Davis
Davis is having a great season as he has thrived as the side-kick to LeBron James. As a result, the Los Angeles Lakers are in the first seed in the Western Conference. To top it all off, Davis is also a Defensive Player of the Year candidate with totals of 2.4 blocks per game, 1.6 steals per game, and a defensive rating of 101. Davis also boasts one All-Star Game MVP on his resume so he knows what it takes to win the award.Oh and to top it all off, he is from Chicago which is where the All-Star festivities are being held. You can bet he would love to win the All-Star Game MVP in his hometown. Davis’ chances are a 9.5 out of 10.
NBA All-Star #5: Kawhi Leonard
Kawhi is one of the silent superstars in the league. It would appear NBA legend, Tim Duncan, taught him well during his San Antonio days. He is one of the best players in the league, however, his playstyle does not exactly translate to flashy play. Like it or not, the fans tend to like flashy play during this type of game. Kawhi may put up solid numbers, but don’t expect him to be the front-runner for the award. With this in mind, Kawhi’s chances are seven out of 10.
NBA All-Star #6: Joel Embiid
Embiid is a top-three center in the league for a reason. Embiid has one of the gravitating personalities in the league. As a result, he seems to fit in this type of weekend and no, that is not a slight on the Philly big man. This will be Embiid’s third All-Star appearance and he could be hungry to add an All-Star Game MVP to his resume. With this in mind, his chances are a solid eight out of 10.
NBA All-Star #7: Trae Young
Trae Young is making his first All-Star Game appearance. He is a firecracker who can get hot at any moment as we are seeing him put up totals of 29.7 points per game, a three-point percentage of 37.3%, and an effective field goal percentage of 52.9%. His ability to score is made for this type of game. With his scoring prowess, the second-year phenom has a great nine out of 10 chance of winning the All-Star Game MVP.
NBA All-Star #8: James Harden
Like Young, Harden is an offensive machine. A machine who should thrive in the All-Star Game. The Beard is tallying an insane 35.2 points per game, 7.3 assists per game, and a three-point shooting percentage of 35.6%. Harden has also won an All-Star Game MVP, so he knows what it takes to win this type of award. Harden’s chances are a solid 8.5 out of 10.
NBA All-Star #9: Pascal Siakam
Siakam is a first time All-Star this season and for good reason. The Toronto Most Improved Player of the Year and champion is putting up numbers of 23.4 points per game, 7.6 total rebounds per game, and a player efficiency rating of 18.7. Spicy P has the makings of an All-Star, but it is difficult to tell if he will shoot for the MVP award with being his first time. With that said, we give his chances a 7.5 out of 10.
NBA All-Star #10: Kemba Walker
Kemba is starting to become a seasoned All-Star. This will be his fourth All-Star appearance, but his first as a member of the Boston Celtics. Walker has always been overlooked throughout his career, which could benefit his chances of winning his first All-Star Game MVP. Walker is tallying 22 points per game to couple with five assists per game this season. As a result, he is more than capable of going off and winning the award which gives him a chance of eight out of 10.
NBA All-Star #11: Domantas Sabonis
Sabonis is having a career year with the underrated Indiana Pacers. He is putting up numbers of 18.2 points per game and 12.7 rebounds per game giving him a healthy double-double average. However, this is his first All-Star appearance so it will be difficult to read on whether he will be shooting for the award or even get meaningful minutes to give him a chance at producing solid numbers. With this in mind, we give his chances of winning the award a 6.5 out of 10.
NBA All-Star #12: Bam Adebayo
Adebayo is another one of the first time All-Stars. Like Sabonis and Siakam, it is difficult to predict whether or not he will have a chance at winning the All-Star Game award. Adebayo has developed nicely as his 15.9 points per game, 4.9 assists per game, and 10.4 total rebounds per game averages have translated into a well deserved All-Star appearance. We give Adebayo’s chances a 6.5 out of 10.
All-Star #13: Ben Simmons
Simmons is the second part of the 76ers star duo to pair with Joel Embiid. Say what you will about Simmons’ three-point shooting, he deserves another appearance. Simmons is tallying 16.8 points per game, 8.3 assists per game, and 7.9 total rebounds per game giving him a near triple-double. It could go either way with Simmons. His willingness to play-make for others could either really help his chances or maybe hurt his chances in this particular exhibition matchup. We give his chances a seven out of 10.
All-Star #14: Jimmy Butler
Butler is a dog. That is a good thing in the NBA. Say what you will about his stints in Minnesota and Philadelphia, he is thriving as the leader of the Miami Heat this season. He has helped cultivate Bam Adebayo into a solid second option and new All-Star and has put the Heat in the heart of the postseason picture in the Eastern Conference. Butler is averaging 20.5 points per game, 6.3 assists per game, and 6.8 rebounds per game. With the amount of fight in Butler, we give his chances at the MVP award a solid 8.5 out of 10.
All-Star #15: Jayson Tatum
To add to the slew of first-time All-Stars, we have Boston Celtics’ forward, Jayson Tatum. Tatum has formed a solid second-option to pair with the other All-Star on the Celtics’ roster in Kemba Walker. Many Celtics fans love their new weapon at the wing spot and for good reason. Tatum is tallying nearly 22 points per game, almost seven rebounds per game, and a player efficiency rating of 19.4. The future is bright in Boston and Jayson Tatum is a big part of their plans. We give Tatum’s chances at the MVP award a seven out of 10.
All-Star #16: Khris Middleton
This will be Middleton’s second All-Star appearance. The Milwaukee Bucks’ second star had a decent All-Star Game last season as he finished with a stat-line of 20 points, five rebounds, and four assists. For those who think Middleton should not be an All-Star, consider the fact that he is currently in the 50, 40, 90 club right now, (50.5% from the field, 43.9% from three-point territory, and 90.1% from the free-throw line.) Those are All-Star numbers whether you like it or not. Middleton’s chances are a healthy 7.5 out of 10.
All-Star #17: Nikola Jokic
Nikola Jokic is another second-time All-Star making an appearance this year. Jokic started the season off relatively slowly but has bounced back in a massive way. Joker has led the Denver Nuggets to the second seed in the Western Conference for the second season in a row and has made them look like a legitimate title contender. His numbers read 20.6 points per game, 6.9 assists per game, and 10.2 total rebounds per game. It has been speculated that Jokic really wants to win this game, which means we could see an amazing performance from Big Honey. We give his chances at the All-Star Game MVP an 8.5 out of 10, which is much higher than last year.
All-Star #18: Kyle Lowry
Kyle Lowry is starting to become a consistent fixture in this event. This will be Lowry’s sixth All-Star appearance. With the Raptors losing Kawhi Leonard, but still maintaining success, Lowry has seen some of his numbers rise back up this season. He is tallying 19.8 points per game, 7.5 assists per game, and an offensive rating of 117. Due in large part to Lowry’s production, the Raptors are once again in the top tier of the NBA. We give Lowry’s chances at the All-Star Game MVP a seven out of 10.
All-Star #19: Devin Booker
Booker was originally one of the players who was considered one of the biggest snubs of the All-Star Game. Fortunately for Booker, he will now get his first All-Star appearance. He will replace the injured Damian Lillard in both the All-Star Game and the Three-Point Shootout. Booker is tallying a solid 26.4 points per game on an efficient true shooting percentage of 62.5% and 6.3 assists per game. Booker is an offensive machine, so we give his chances at the MVP award an eight out of 10.
All-Star #20: Donovan Mitchell
Donovan Mitchell is another first-time All-Star. He had a terrific season last year and has just built upon it this season. He has helped the Utah Jazz move into the top tier of the Western Conference postseason picture. This season, Mitchell is recording numbers of 24.5 points per game, 4.2 assists per game, and a player efficiency rating of 19.2. Spida has been electric since he came into the league, so we expect him to put on a show in his first All-Star showcase. His chances are eight out of 10.
All-Star #21: Chris Paul
Chris Paul is a veteran, a professional, future Hall of Famer, and one of the best point guards in NBA history. This season, many thought Paul was going to show the signs of his age and that the Thunder were going to be a team rebuilding. That has not been the case either front. The Thunder are in the playoff picture and Chris Paul is still putting up efficient numbers. Numbers of 17 points per game, 6.6 assists per game, and five rebounds per game. He has won an All-Star Game MVP before, so the veteran knows what it will take, but it is unclear if he will get meaningful minutes to give him a chance. Paul’s chances are a 6.5 out of 10.
All-Star #22: Rudy Gobert
Sure, we know Gobert deserves his first All-Star nod. Gobert is also the reigning two-time Defensive Player of the Year. However, his playstyle does not exactly pair well with an exhibition match where the offense is the main showcase. Gobert’s numbers this year are impressive though and he makes for a great co-star with Donovan Mitchell. Gobert is tallying 15.6 points per game, 14.5 total rebounds per game, and nearly two blocks per game. As stated already though, his playstyle is not exactly compatible with an event like the NBA All-Star Game. We give his chances at the MVP award a measly five out of 10.
All-Star #23: Russell Westbrook
Westbrook will be making his ninth All-Star appearance. Westbrook is newest star to pair with James Harden in Houston and the pair has actually been surpassing expectations. Many expected Westbrook’s production to take a hit when left the Thunder, but he is still proving to be one of the best guards in the league. He is tallying 27.2 points per game, 7.2 assists per game, and eight rebounds per game. This means he is still close to averaging a triple-double despite being the second option on a new team. Not to mention, Westbrook has won the All-Star Game MVP twice before. Westbrook’s chances are a solid eight out of 10.
NBA All-Star Game #24: Brandon Ingram
We come to our final All-Star. Brandon Ingram has been one of the lone bright spots for the New Orleans Pelicans this season. Ingram seems to finally be living up to his potential after a few years in the shadows in Los Angeles. He is putting up numbers of 25.1 points per game, 4.2 assists per game, 6.5 rebounds per game. Ingram is a player with a ton of length and can put buckets on anyone in the league. His playstyle will correlate well to this event. He is another first-time All-Star this season, but he still has the potential to win the NBA All-Star Game MVP. With that said, we are giving Ingram chances a 7.5 out of 10.
