On February 13, 2020, The Boston Celtics announced that they plan to retire the number five from the team next season. This is to honor the future Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett, who wore the number five was with the Celtics for the six seasons. During that time, it included three trips to the Eastern Conference finals, two trips to the Finals, and an NBA championship. Along with these team accomplishments, The Big Ticket had plenty of great moments for the Celtics. Here are the top five moments of Kevin Garnett’s moments for the Celtics.

Kevin Garnett Moment #5. The Trade

After winning only 24 games during the 2006-07 season, the made a lot of moves with KG being one of them. In only 3 days after the Celtics traded for sharpshooter Ray Allen, the Celtics traded for Kevin Garnett for five players and 2 draft picks to the Minnesota Timberwolves. This is the most that a team has traded for one player in league history. With their new Big 3, the Celtics completed the greatest single turn around in NBA history by 66 games.

Kevin Garnett Moment #4. Buzzer Beater Against the Knicks

With 9.3 seconds left in overtime, the Celtics had the final possession. With Allen inbounding to Paul Pierce, who was a great player in the clutch. While Pierce was trying to set up for the final shot, Garnett rolled out with his man going to double team Pierce at the wing. This left Garnett open at the top of the key and Pierce passed it to him. With the open shot, Garnett nailed a buzzer-beater game-winner stunning Madison Square Garden.

Kevin Garnett Moment #3. 2008 First Round Game 7

With Boston’s first playoff series with their new Big 3, they faced the 8th seed Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks were able to push the series to seven games, but game 7 is where we saw how dominant Garnett was for the Celtics. The Celtics won in blowout fashion 99-65, with KG scoring 18 points and grabbed 11 boards while only playing 27 minutes the entire game. After this game, they would continue their journey to the NBA Finals.

2. 2012 ECF Game 3

In this series, the Celtics were pitted against the Miami Heat led by Lebron James. After losing the first two games, the Celtics were in a must-win situation. Kevin Garnett decided that he didn’t want to lose where he was able to get 24 points and 11 rebounds in a 101-91 Celtics win. During the game, Garnett was on the receiving end of a hard foul. After being down for a second, Garnett rolled over on his stomach and did eight push-ups. This moment shows the grit and resilience of Kevin Garnett.

1. “Anything is Possible”

In 2007-08 season, The Boston Celtics made it back to the NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. At the time, it was their first finals since 1987, and they were determined to win. KG was dominant in Game 1 getting 24 points and 13 rebounds with a put-back poster dunk on Pau Gasol. This win was the start of a run that ended with the Celtics 17th NBA Championship. Winning the series after a 131-92 game 6 win with KG getting 26 points and 14 rebounds. After the win, an emotional KG shouted “Anything is Possible” and it has become one of the most memorable quotes in Boston sports history.
