International Profile Part 4: Tyrese Proctor

Tyrese Proctor

Skilled guards are a thing that we always look forward to watching during basketball games. Their ability to put on a show is phenomenal as they rock the crowd in each possession. Australian Native, Tyrese Proctor, is the next big thing as far as tall point guards. Proctor at a young age shows the tangibles of becoming a fantastic hybrid guard at the professional level.

Overview of Proctor

Proctor In-Depth

Just a summary of the Australian native. Proctor joined the NBA Global Academy to begin his journey as a top talent in basketball. Since he began, scouts have continued to rave about his play in the U18 and U20 Tournaments. According to many, Proctor is projected to be one of Australia’s next big things. Considering guard, Josh Giddey was drafted in 2021 by the Oklahoma City Thunder, it gives players like Proctor momentum and an opportunity to headline the future NBA Drafts.

If a fan loves shot-creating guards, Proctor can become someone’s favorite player. The 17-year-old phenomenon is very creative off the dribble. He often puts defenders in a blender as he has the ability to keep them unbalanced and falling to the ground. Proctor’s shot-making is impressive as he uses his length to elevate over defenders and create separation at a good level. With his height of 6’4 and wingspan of 6’7, Proctor fits well with bigger point guards in Lonzo Ball, LaMelo Ball, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and others.

It’s best to know that when a player has the offensive ability that Proctor does, he’s best to be a good passer as well. Proctor’s court vision and awareness are great as he finds open teammates. Usually, when he is guarded pretty well on the perimeter, Proctor understands where to find his teammates for easy looks. Proctor’s playmaking could be utilized more as he travels through his basketball journey. As of today, it is more of a secondary that needs to be looked upon more. If Proctor could find a way to get his teammates more involved, it could help his value increase tremendously.

Notable Performances

During his season playing for the U20, Proctor was one of the leading factors with averages of 13.8 points per game on 46 percent shooting. He would display a few offensive performances with 14 points and 21 points in a five-game stretch. Also, in nine games for the U18 league earlier this year, he averaged 18.6 points on 43 percent shooting in a nine-game stretch. Proctor’s numbers slowly improve with more opportunities in front of him. When he is relied upon to be the number one option, he rises to the occasion.

Overview/Conclusion

The one area where Proctor can continue to build upon is adding muscle to his frame. He currently is a real scrawny-built player that has a lot of talent. As he continues to transition his game against other competitions, it would be great to watch him get stronger in order to have strength attacking the rim. Besides the frame issue, Proctor displays all of the tools necessary to become a future NBA All-Star. It will be interesting where his basketball journey takes him next.
